Lady Allen Launches Doreen Clemetson Scholarship

The Girl Guides Association of Jamaica is pleased to announce the launch of the Doreen Clemetson Scholarship. This scholarship will contribute JMD$500,000 per year over three years towards the expenses of a successful candidate’s tertiary-level studies in the field of education.
Her Excellency the Most Honourable Lady Allen, wife of the Governor-General of Jamaica and patron of the Girl Guides Association of Jamaica, graciously agreed to launch the scholarship at King’s House at 2:00 pm on Thursday, 22 September 2022, the week after the 89th anniversary of the birth of Doreen Clemetson.
The Girl Guides Association of Jamaica invites those who wish to honour Doreen Clemetson’s memory, increase the reach and impact of the scholarship by supporting future educators in Jamaica to donate to the Doreen Clemetson Scholarship Fund. Donations made by cheque and made out to The D.C. Scholarship Fund and mailed or delivered to 2 Waterloo Road, Kingston 10 or by visiting www.DoreenClemetsonScholarship.org .
In commenting on the upcoming launch, former Girl Guide Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Marjorie Gaynor noted, “We are excited to help young women become Jamaica’s next generation of teachers by establishing this scholarship. We are also thrilled and honoured that Lady Allen has agreed to host the launch of this important venture. We are confident that, through donations from Jamaicans at home and abroad, we will touch the lives of many young women and have a significant impact in advancing quality education in Jamaica.”
